After reading research which claimed that over half of women edit their social media and online dating photos, 22-year-old American beauty vlogger Alexa Mitchell decided to do a quick experiment.
She took a trio of selfies, and saved an untouched set before whipping up retouched versions - smoothing her skin, brightening her eyes and adjusting the colour - on photo editing app Relook.
First she submitted a profile with the unedited photos and swiped right on the profiles of a hundred men, indicating that she was 'interested'. After five hours she had received 16 matches from potential dates.
But then she posted the edited photos. After again swiping right on a hundred men, this time her profile attracted 75 matches in the five hour time frame - a 250 per cent increase on her unedited photo.
