What are you giving up?
I'm giving up processed/refined sugar (Yes, I watched That Sugar Film).
What is your top tip for sticking to it?
Be organised, plan your meals. Also, have a bunch of people also doing it with you, so you feel united and like you have support, but also so you have some sort of sense of competition (if you're into that kind of thing). My boyfriend is doing it with me and he ate a skittle by accident (he forgot) on the weekend, so I'm one up on him!
Why are you doing Junk Free June?
To state the obvious it's for a much bigger and better cause, but on a personal level I eat so much disgusting junk food - mainly lollies and chocolate and liquorice - that I thought it would be a good personal challenge. I haven't seen That Sugar Film, but I hear it's bad for you these days?
What are you giving up?
Sweet stuff. Muffins. Candy. Chocolate. Brownies.
What is your top tip for sticking to it?
Challenge yourself to see if I can. I gave up coffee for a month. THAT was hard.
Why are you doing Junk Free June?
To support The Cancer Society and raise awareness around 'junk'; to show people how easy it is to start a healthier lifestyle.
What are you giving up?
I'm going vegan for the month of June as I already eat so clean. I really wanted to challenge myself by going without any animal products.
What is your top tip for sticking to it?
I'm usually pretty stubborn when I put my mind to something, so just be disciplined with yourself. It's only one month!
Why are you doing Junk Free June?
There are many ways to fight back at cancer and I feel like Junk Free June has a great positive energy behind it. The Cancer Society does tremendous work and if we can help a little by making June Junk Free then let's do it!
What are you giving up?
Well my birthday is in June so I guess that means I'll be cutting out cake! But my real Achilles heel is chocolate, ice cream and anything that has no significant nutritional value. Being a few days into it now, it's not that easy.
What is your top tip for sticking to it?
The time I really struggle is at night. I often crave something sweet after dinner so having some coconut-covered dates in the house is a saviour. My husband unknowingly ate the last one yesterday and so I got a bit mad. Removing all temptations from the house is key!
Why are you doing Junk Free June?
I am supporting Junk Free June because I love food! Although I'm very healthy, I do love sugary treats, especially cakes and home baking. So (as silly as it sounds) for me to cut out cake and any home baking for a whole month is a big deal! The Cancer Society is also a charity that sits close to my heart, as like many, the deadly disease has personally affected me. I hold hope that one day a cure will be found, but until then, all we can do is support wonderful charities like The Cancer Society.
What are you giving up?
All cakes, home baking and treats containing refined sugar and hot chips - they are really the only unhealthy things I eat.
What is your top tip for sticking to it?
Think about how great Junk Free June is for your health as well as the contribution you are making to those living with cancer and the society - then you will stick to it. The guilt of breaking it just isn't worth it.
