Acid-tongued judge Simon Cowell may not return for the fifth season of American Idol in January. He is said to be involved in "hugely expensive renegotiations" over his highly successful talent competition The X-Factor, which he created for British television.
An associate said Cowell was "not interested in making a star for another label", which may see him ditch his Idol work and sell The X-Factor to a rival network.
