A Note from the Author
Baseball, as Carter Pigza explains to his son, Joey, is a simple game. Basically, a caveman with a rock faces off against a caveman with a stick. Well, there are a few things Carter forgot to mention. Like the rules. In case the game is new to you, don't worry, I will try to outline some of the basics without boggling your mind with a lot of trivia. In baseball, there are nine players on a team and nine innings in each game. Within each inning a team has a chance to score runs. But once they make three outs in an inning, then it is the other team's turn to 'bat'. At the end of nine innings the team with the most runs wins. The team that is not at bat takes position on a large field that is V-Shaped. At the point of the V, four bases are set up in the shape of a diamond.
