What is it with young bands and weird names? First the trio Neil Robinson won the Smokefree Rockquest. Then eight-piece band the Jick took out the Smokefree Pacifica Beats final at the St James on Saturday.
The soulful Waikato band from Kawerau College are unusual in that they have four female vocalists. They took home $2500 in prizemoney, and the opportunity to record their two winning songs. The first single will go to radio before Christmas. Second place went to Tokoroa High School's Hamonyze.
Like the Rockquest, Pacifica Beats aims to find the country's top up-and-coming R&B or hip-hop act.
