Jazzman Rodger Fox was back in the orchestra pit moments after receiving an honorary doctorate at Massey University.
"You get your degree, you sing for your supper - but quite frankly that's what I do," said Fox, who led Massey's Big Band at graduation ceremonies for more than 600 students at Wellington's Michael Fowler Centre last week, before flying back to Auckland where he performed at the opening of the Blue Chip International Jazz Series.
Fox is the first jazz musician in New Zealand to receive an honorary doctorate of music.
