Peter Jackson's production company has sued New Line Cinema over profits from the first Lord of the Rings film, the Associated Press says.
The Fellowship of the Ring earned US$314 million ($437.87m) at the US box office and US$556.6m internationally.
Wingnut Films claims in a Los Angeles filed federal lawsuit that New Line and subsidiary Katja Motion Pictures failed to properly calculate revenue, including DVD sales.
AP said the suit accuses the studio of giving affiliates favourable licensing deals and seeks an injunction to stop it from doing so.
