And talking of American indie veterans, New Jersey-ites Yo La Tengo deliver their 11th album, their 10th And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out almost breaking them out of the cultdom with a quietly harmonious approach at odds with their art-noise beginnings.
Summer Sun is an extension of And Then Nothing's considered minimalism with the trio adding jazzy and dubby flavourings around the edges and a sweet cover of Big Stars Take Care in the middle. Generally hazy and open-ended in mood, its tunes take their own good time to work their way in, especially as the vocals of husband and wife Georgia Hubley and Ira Kaplan are doing more sighing than singing. But that restraint can make this feel just a little too remote and refined to make as much of a lasting impression as YLT's last one did.
