This book will make you want to get on your tramping boots and head for the fresh air. From the three-night Glenfern Sanctuary walk on Great Barrier Island, to the Catlins tracks in the South Island, Hirsh takes us around the country.
Aucklanders will be interested to note the Waimatuku Walks on the Awhitu Peninsula on Manukau Harbour, just an hour's drive from the city, where you could spend a happy three days rambling around the tracks opened up by Glenys Lowe and Jane Brown. There are issues around the fact that all the walks listed involve considerable charges, but many people will enjoy their packaged nature and the fact that access has been provided to areas previously out-of-bounds. A user-friendly guide, giving contact details for bookings, gradings of difficulty and general directions.
