Where: 23 Beach St, Queenstown
We came here because we were on holiday in Queenstown and a friend who lives there recommended it as the "best brunch in town".
Parking was not a problem, we walked.
We walked in and immediately thought there are more locals here than tourists. They must know something.
The most unusual thing on the menu was the toasted banana bread with fig and lemon marmellata and mascarpone ($8).
We ordered the pan-fried creamy mushrooms ($14.50) - which had a terrific rich flavour complemented by piles of rocket and thick slices of buttery ciabatta - and the pancakes ($14.50), a light and fluffy high stack of them accompanied by roasted apple, lemon zest butter, blackberries and blueberries and a pot of syrup. Gorgeous to look at and just as nice to eat. A side of two small breakfast sausages for $5 was, however, overpriced. Lastly, the eggs benedict ($15.50), which was pronounced as good as any we'd tasted.
The coffee was very long in coming. But not bad when it did arrive.
The service was friendly but, unfortunately, really slow. Even on our second visit, when it wasn't so busy.
We recommend if you come here don't be in any sort of hurry.
Overall we thought that Vudu would be welcome to work its flavoursome magic on us anytime.
