We came here because we were en route to Newmarket when we saw Verve's gorgeous, sun-drenched deck and couldn't resist stopping.
Parking was easy, up the hill. And the pay and display a very reasonable $2 an hour.
We walked in and immediately thought... perfect — a table for two tucked in the corner and bathed in sunshine. It was meant to be.
We ordered the corn fritters with poached eggs and eggs benedict with bacon. Twin was over from Australia and has been obsessed with corn fritters since she first discovered them on a visit two years ago. She was slightly surprised by Verve's version, however, which were more doughy than eggy — a bit like fluffy pancakes with sporadic bits of corn in them. The eggs bene was superb.
The most unusual thing on the menu was nothing particularly, but all were extremely tempting. The prawn bruschetta was a definite contender until our hangovers won out and we opted for classic brunch fare.
The service was exceptional. Friendly, prompt and genuinely warm. I hadn't been there in years but was made to feel like a regular.
The coffee was excellent.
We recommend if you come here you bask in the sunshine and enjoy the prime people-watching position. It really must be one of the best cafe locations in Auckland. Overall we thought Verve was made for mornings like this. Roll on summer — and bruschetta on the deck
