Not to be confused with the late 70s Auckland band Waves, this fine collection of Kiwi pop, rock and jazz of an arty andambient bent was compiled by Relaxomatic Project guitarist Dan Sperber.
He features twice — on Relaxomatic's The Southern Drop and The New Loungehead's Beautiful Bear.
But those contributions fit neatly into the overall mood created by the 13 tracks — sunset at your favourite bach just as the tide and the mozzies are coming in.
There's some smart work by Sperber evident in how he's taken some seemingly disparate artists — Dave Dobbyn runs into HDU, Nathan Haines into Shihad — and assembled them into something intelligent, evocative, fresh and quite lovely. Makes those Lazy Sunday compilations look confused and pointless by comparison, too.
