(Dreamworks)
Review: Russell Baillie
Maybe it's the old moviebiz-musicbiz synergy, but the soundtracks from Dreamworks movies seem to be a cut above the usual merchandising afterthought.
And so it is with the album from the comedy (starting today) which would seem to be this year's answer to American Pie.
Song wise, much of it fits right in with its leery, beery characters with a mix of Kid Rock, Run-DMC (It's Tricky), Supergrass (Pumping On Your Stereo) and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion (Lovin' Machine) offering a variety of party anthems.
While there's a comedy factor here, too, with Ween (Voodoo Lady), Twisted Sister (I Wanna Rock) and a final punchline — or is it a romantic coda? — from Minnie Ripperton's Inside My Love.
