Don't know if even the most die-hard fan of television's best drama needs two remixes (by Rae and Christian and Phohek) to Thomas (brother of Randy) Newman's oboe-powered theme tune. But they sit up the end of this otherwise very good assortment of tunes featured on the show.
No funeral marches but the gems extend to sweetly glum contributions by P. J. Harvey (One Time Too Many), Lamb (Heaven) and Craig Armstrong with Paul Buchanan (a retake of the Blue Nile's Let's Go Out Tonight). And while it's got grooves to gently wake the dead with the Beta Band's Squares and the Stereo MC's Deep Down and Dirty, it's got one foot in pop's graveyard with Peggy Lee's I Love Being Here With You, Julie London's Yummy Yummy Yummy and Shuggie Otis' Inspiration Information, which is as fine an example of 70s wah-wah-powered popfunk as you're ever likely to hear this side of a Jamiroquai album. Dead classy.
