The movie arrives in cinemas today, and while Eminem might feature on the cover of this second soundtrack spin-off, he's not on the inside. The first is where you'll find his hit Lose Yourself among other tracks "inspired by the movie".
This is the sound of the film itself - a time-capsule of mid-90s gangsta rap, a period where Eminem's movie alter-ego "Rabbit" was just starting out. Therefore, some of these artists may well have proved influential on the man's early days and it's not hard to hear the likes of Naughty By Nature's Feel Me Flow and the quick-witted paranoia of Mobb Deep (two tracks) as having had a lasting effect.
Elsewhere, there's many Wu-Tang Clansmen - together and solo - as well as the late Notorious B. I. G.'s Juicy (recently re-worked on the Jay-Z album), and just to balance its East Coast bias is a cameo from 2Pac on MC Breed's Gotta Get Mine.
No, it's not as exciting as its contemporary predecessor, and selling it as an Eminem album is a bit rich.
