Despite the title — and as with its predecessor — there's not much that's original about the sound behind Quentin Tarantino's second attempt to make Uma Thurman the new Charles Bronson.
But it does have a certain showdown-at-high-noon-south-of-the-border atmosphere care of its three borrowed Ennio Morricone spaghetti western twangers, some mariachi rockers, a dusty bit of rockabilly from Charlie Feathers, and a latter-day Johnny Cash ballad (A Satisfied Mind). Compounding the sample-upon-sample thinking is the inclusion of the Malcolm McLaren track About Her — a blend of the Zombies and Bessie Smith which must have sounded clever at the time. Much of the rest — apart from the warped torch pop of Shivaree's Goodnight Moon, the only contemporary offering — is heavy on Tarantino dialogue which without the film is about as much fun as listening to a neighbour's domestic dispute.
