This soundtrack to the sexy hoofer flick starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renee Zellweger and Richard Gere (which opens today) confirms the main players are passable as singers, albeit in that stagey, mannered way on songs which are essentially narratives and come with brief spoken monologues. The show boasts a few memorable and familiar tunes — All That Jazz, Cell Block Tango, Roxie — and Zellweger has a breathy Marilyn Monroe quality ). With padding by Anastacia and a couple of Danny Elfman instrumentals there's a memento here of the movie. But you'd have to be a real fan to get multiple plays out of it.
