The sounds of the classics will entertain an expected 200,000 people at the annual SkyCity Starlight Symphony in the Auckland Domain tonight.
Among the performers will be 13-year-old Jason Bae, who has already performed twice with the Auckland Symphony Orchestra.
The South Korean-born teenager, who attends St Peter's College in Epsom, began learning piano at 4 and is now a member of the University of Auckland Academy of Music.
The show starts at 7.45pm, and will feature the Auckland Philharmonia and the Auckland debuts of some young opera singers.
The second half will feature rock classics by singers including Frankie Stevens. This year's charity to benefit is the Kidz First Children's Hospital.
Organiser's recommendations:
* Walk or catch a taxi or bus.
* Bring a rug to sit on.
* Bring food and water. Alcohol is OK (a liquor ban around the museum does not apply to the Starlight Symphony).
* Give donations only to official collectors, who will be wearing special yellow hospital gowns.
It's a grand night under the stars
