Since 1994, EA Sports has been pumping out the football games. We have forgiven its dodgy earlier efforts because in the past few years it has consistently topped the tables with its officially licensed footy releases.
Last year's brilliant World Cup 98 was followed by the equally impressive FIFA 99, which has held the "top footy game" crown.
But FIFA 2000 is poised to snatch that title away, boasting superior graphics, faster and more fluid gameplay and a seemingly endless list of options.
But the most astounding feature of FIFA 2000 is not the improved graphics and the 500 club and international teams (all with full squads), but that they have managed to improve nearly every aspect of what was already a wonderful game.
With the power of an official licence from soccer's governing body behind it, EA Sports has really got it together with this latest title and any soccer fans, or even sports enthusiasts in general, should at least try FIFA 2000.
The gameplay controls are brilliantly conceived because they can be as simple or as complicated as you want.
You can play a perfectly good game of footy with just the standard pass, tackle and shoot game. But a more advanced player can add through-balls, 360-degree spins, jump tackles, powerful volleys and any number of on-the-field acrobatics.
You can even select a classic team from the past and recreate some of the memorable games of this century. Choose England's winning 1966 World Cup side if you want to see the last English sports side to win anything.
FIFA 2000 is certainly the finest soccer game created for PlayStation.
It's a goal!
