They are a mutinous lot, those Australians: since 1916 there have been more mutinies in the Royal Australian Navy than in any other English-speaking nation's Navy. New Zealanders have mutinied once, in 1947, and that has been described as more a strike than a mutiny. Nevertheless, it was enough to get us into this rigorously researched book.
The authors are at pains to consider the wider questions, such as humankind's propensity to question authority and whether it is possible that mutinies might be symptoms of institutional decline and catalysts for overdue reform.
