KEY POINTS:
* Milford Mall's recent makeover (a swished-up interior and some new fashion shops including Witchery, Moochi and James & August) has helped dispel its pensioners' clearance hall feel, but what really has the locals excited is the addition of an excellent food market. The New Zealand Farm Co has opened a butchery/deli/fresh fruit and vege outlet and has its own cafe selling healthy burgers, kebabs and salads with meat from its own farm in Southland.
* Chow has opened a Takapuna outlet in what was once the home of the Killarney St Brasserie (but the entrance is on Hurstmere Rd) and the recent addition of Onion Johnny beneath the Berkeley Cinema is another welcome addition to the range of eateries.
Licensed to thrill
Ima & Ibn, an inner-city favourite cafe, now has a liquor licence for its Fort St premises, meaning dinners Thursday through Saturday are more enticing.

Hot Stuff
In ancient Mexico hot cocoa was a drink for the royals, so they take drinking chocolate seriously. Tio Pablo is a New Zealand-based company inspired by Mexico which has come up with Chocolate Azteca - a delicious blend of dark cocoa, cinnamon and chilli spices. And if you're looking for something new to serve at your next round of summer drinks, try the Tio Pablo Pepitas. Popular in Mexico, they are toasted pumpkin seeds with salt, lime, garlic and chilli. Perfect with a cold beer or wine, or sprinkled on a salad. $6.96. All available from Farro Fresh Food, 80 Lunn Ave, Mt Wellington. Ph (09) 570 7071.
