Here at Viva we love that the standard of olive oil produced in this country just gets better and better and therefore there's no need to import it from the other side of the world. The latest to cross our desk is The Village Press, cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, which comes in a stylish black cardboard box with a little tap (just like a wine cask). Originating from the Hawkes Bay, it is free of additives, colours and preservatives and is soft and buttery with a light palate. $19.99 for one litre, from Farro Fresh, 80 Lunn Ave, Mt Wellington. Take a break
We all know times are tough but here's something you and your workmates or friends can do to cheer yourselves up and help those less fortunate. All you have to do is register to be part of Oxfam's Biggest Coffee Break and Oxfam will send you everything you need including a fundraising kit, Fairtrade coffee and hot chocolate. Last year over 7000 New Zealanders stopped to share a coffee and raise money to help struggling growers, in countries such as Ethiopia and Ghana, work their way out of poverty. You need to register before April 20, and then the Coffee Breaks will be held during Fairtrade Fortnight which runs from May 2-17. Phone 0800 400 600 for more information.
The good rub
Ease away the stresses of the week at GPK on Ponsonby Road. Every Friday in April, between 4-6pm, if you buy a glass of Two Tracks wine at the bar, you'll receive a seven minute head and shoulder massage by a masseuse. GPK, 260 Ponsonby Rd. Ph: (09) 360 1113.
