KEY POINTS:
Sliced and Diced is the name of a new meal preparation business set up by a Kiwi couple. They do the shopping, and food preparation, supplying fresh ingredients ready to cook. You pop into their HQ for under two hours, and under guidance cook the meals and take them home to pop into the freezer.
So far Paul and Kirsti Goddard have a store at Albany and hope to expand their outlets. They reckon the concept is perfect for time-poor people who still want a nodding acquaintance with the kitchen but who haven't the energy or inclination to plan a range of meals. Instead, they recommend fitting in a monthly cookery session so you can take the headache out of your nightly dining. The experienced food industry professionals recommend making the cooking excursion into a fun group outing with friends.
Average prices are based on $4.50 a serve, meaning 12 family meals (serving 4-6) - or 24 half-size (serving 2-3) - cost $324. A minimum order of $172 applies, for six family-size meals. For an extra charge, Sliced and Diced will make and also deliver to some North Shore suburbs. Dishes are modern family-style meals and menus alter monthly. Authentic spreads
The Buoni Sapori range of European style preserves is made by Italian-born Simonetta Ferrari from her imposing central Canterbury lodge, Gunyah. Some of the ingredients are even grown on the estate. We particularly like the Wild Mushroom, Porcini and Port Sauce. As a spread with cheese, it's hard to beat. $10.95 for 100g from Farro Fresh, ph (09) 570 7071.
