By HARVEY CLARK
Tess Redgrave encourages women to go out and make their own tracks, whether seeking maximum physical challenge or just relaxation.
Each of the 10 wilderness encounters described is a personal journey told from a woman's perspective, sometimes accompanied by the spirits of early colonial women, such as Katherine Mansfield in the Ureweras.
The chapters include tramping in the Far North, kayaking at Stewart Island and on the Whanganui River, horse-trekking in the Ureweras and voyaging from Doubtful Sound to Preservation Inlet.
This excellent production is complemented by outstanding photographs by Becky Nunes, who captures a range of moods from the mysterious Ureweras to stormy exhilaration off the Fiordland coast.
