The Horrible Histories series of books has been a huge hit with boys in particular for many years. The publishers have now produced a weekly magazine series which is sure to create a whole new audience.
Each edition focuses on a different period in history and the cartoon illustrations and visual jokes turn the study of history into an enjoyment pastime.
Each week there is also a section that looks at the everyday lives of ordinary people during that particular era.
In the first edition, about ancient Rome, children can read about school life and the games that children played 2000 years ago. There is also a section with quizzes and puzzles. These magazines are a great way to introduce children to the joys of reading non-fiction.
