As sure as rock stars marry models, their offspring grow up to star in celebrity advertising campaigns.
Renee Stewart, 17-year-old daughter of Rod Stewart and Rachel Hunter, is here from Los Angeles for the launch of her modelling debut.
The aspiring dancer is in Auckland helping her mother reprise her role in a television hair commercial that yielded the Kiwi catch-cry: "It won't happen overnight, but it will happen."
Turns out Renee was a reluctant model unlike the Jagger girls, Liv Tyler, Brian Ferry's boy and even a slimmed down Kelly Osbourne.
"Umm, when I got the call, umm ... I thought how am I going to convince Renee to do that," said Hunter in her transPacific drawl at a carefully managed media launch yesterday.
It turns out this isn't really Renee's first advertising campaign as Hunter was three months pregnant when she filmed the Pantene commercial 18 years ago.
"Renee did such an incredible job, she'd never spoken in front of a camera before, or modelled before."
The advertisement includes old footage of a curly-haired 90s Rachel and then shows the new sleekly-styled version introducing her leggy daughter, who twirls her hair and dances.
"I was so nervous in the beginning," said Renee.
An obviously proud Hunter has largely sheltered Renee and younger brother Liam from the celebrity spotlight - aside from often paid-for soft magazine stories.
She said crew at the shoot in Bangkok were impressed: "Wow she is a dancer, it's not just a mother bragging about her."
The final year high school student hopes to move to New York to study. She practices contemporary and ballet styles.
Their commercial will air from late May and was shot in Bangkok for the Australasian market.
It will happen for our Rach's daughter
