From Scribe in his NomD "Don't Shoot" hoodie to Bic Runga looking ethereal in Zambesi and Brooke Fraser and Goldenhorse's Kirsten Morelle choosing Kate Sylvester to wear to last month's Music Awards, music and fashion go hand in hand. Half the fun is seeing who wears what.
The telly types like Trelise Cooper, so expect to see the likes of Kate Hawkesby and Charlotte Dawson in ringside seats.
Rowing is good for you
Caroline and Georgina Evers-Swindell have become "bone ambassadors" for Osteoporosis New Zealand. The Olympic gold medallist rowers will help spread the word that fitness helps fight the degenerative disease. Their new role was announced at Fashion Week's opening function. The event has chosen Osteoporosis as the charity it supports. World Osteoporosis Day falls on Wednesday. Last year the twins took a turn on the Fashion Week runway for Trelise Cooper.
Snipped in the bud
Susan Scarf is a late withdrawal from Fashion Week. The Auckland label cancelled last week, citing sponsor woes. After their backers pulled out the team decided they could not afford to go ahead. They will push on with promoting their colourful Phoenix Collection for next winter.
Dream win
A retired grandmother from Alexandra has won a Fashion Week competition that attracted more than 35,000 entries. Audrey O'Kane-Marshall gets an all expenses paid makeover courtesy of the Air NZ online Passion for Fashion competition.
She and a friend will spend two nights at the Auckland Hilton, go shopping with Fashion Quarterly's editor and be wined, dined and pampered.
Mrs O'Kane-Marshall says the win is a 60th birthday present come two months early. "To get to see Air New Zealand Fashion Week live and not on TV will be just great."
She is looking forward to the shopping and likes to keep up with trends but takes care with her outfits so she doesn't "look like a licorice allsort".
How to keep up
Music Channel C4 will show highlights of the shows at 7pm and 10.30pm and network news bulletins on TV One and TV3 will also cover some shows. The Fashion Week website will carry live footage. Click on the Telstra Clear Live Video Stream.
