Not to be outdone by World, which included a pair of stockings adorned with thousands of dollars of Swarovski crystals in its show on Monday, Auckland designer Jane Rhodes had a pearl of an idea to set off her collection.
Models were sent down the runway with South Sea pearl necklaces, worth $1 million, from Newmarket jewellers About Time. Security was tight for the show and About Time owner Chris Grima was there as models came off the runway to nab his valuable jewels from model's necks.
Lovely idea, but we wonder if it was worth it: some fashion-goers who attended the show failed to notice them.
All that glitters is gold
World's Francis Hooper and Denise L'Estrange-Corbet are feeling rather happy with themselves.
One of their $10,000 sequinned suits has been put on hold by a collector impressed by the collaboration with artist Reuben Paterson following their show on Monday.
Break a leg
Designer Roisin Kearney wasn't the only one to take a fall yesterday. A model at the Glory show on the same runway where Kearney fell, breaking her leg just an hour earlier - took a tumble just as she was leaving the catwalk.
She couldn't even blame impossibly high heels for putting her off balance: her feet were safely clad in flat boxer's boots. Could the runway be jinxed?
Spin me round
It's not just fashion that is having an eighties revival. It seems designers are raking through their old LPs to find the perfect beat for their shows.
So far crowds have tapped their very fashionable feet to old favourites including Blondie's Rapture, Grace Jones' Pull Up To The Bumper, the Pretenders' Brass in Pocket, Echo and the Bunnymens' Killing Moon , Gary Numan's Are Friends Electric?, the Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams and Dead or Alive's You Spin Me Right Round.
