5 Clarence St, Devonport
We came here because a friend and regular of the cafe recommended the coffee.
Parking was easy, on the street.
We walked in and immediately thought that's the longest cabinet of food we've seen. This cafe has a long, skinny layout with a long, skinny row of tables outside.
The most unusual thing on the menu was the huge selection of cabinet food - definitely recommended for lunch on the run.
We ordered a vegetarian breakfast ($15.90) and a ham and cheese omelette minus the ham ($14.50). The vege breakfast was fine but the omelette was too much like an egg pizza - a flat, rubbery egg base with a few sprinkled toppings. The ham seemed to have been taken out at a late stage, leaving a meaty flavour.
The service was bad. Staff were rushed off their feet, which may be why we felt a bit like we were at the counter at McDonalds.
The coffee was the saving grace for us. Excellent.
We recommend if you come here you wait for a quieter day than the busy Saturday we picked.
Overall we thought maybe we didn't catch the Stone Oven at its best.
