We came here because we are big fans of the original Shaky Isles in Kingsland and wanted to check out their new "branch" in the Britomart precinct.
Parking was not too easy on a busy Saturday morning in the central city - you'd be better to get a bus or train.
We walked in and immediately thought it carries on the same cute artwork and design themes as the Kingsland cafe but in a space that is about three times as large.
The most unusual thing on the menu was crumpets with dates, poached pear and orange ricotta ($14).
We ordered the well-presented crumpets with two grilled kransky sausages, poached eggs and hollandaise ($15), bruschetta with grilled haloumi, avocado, fresh tomato, lime, black pepper and coriander ($13.50), and the absolutely huge Shaky burger with a homemade angus beef patty, bacon, swiss cheese, tomato, lettuce, aioli, and tomato relish ($15).
The service was a bit patchy but they were pretty busy.
The coffee was okay. The tea was made with real leaves which is always a bonus.
We recommend if you come here you get one of the Longest Drinks in Town shakes - the coffee and mocha shakes ($7) are particularly delicious.
Overall we thought the new Shaky Isles doesn't quite have the same vibe as the Kingsland one, perhaps partly due to the different clientele it attracts, but it's still one of the best options in the city for a coffee and a bite to eat.
