There are, of course, some downsides: Home-fitness doesn't give you the same sense of accountability or social interaction that comes with heading to a gym class.
But, on the other hand, at home workouts mean you really can push yourself as if no one's watching. Because they're not.
Here are five new fitness avenues to try that don't require you to set foot in a gym.
1. Ballet Beautiful
Professional ballerina and trainer Mary Helen Bowers is the guru behind Natalie Portman's whipping into shape for her role in Black Swan.
Her Ballet Beautiful programme includes 24-hour training, custom workouts and live classes for a monthly fee of just $39.95.
Considered the Netflix of fitness, unlike your regular gym membership, classes can be done anywhere, at any time.
2. Crunch Gym Live
A well-established gym franchise in the US, Crunch Gym Live are also cashing in on the trend by offering classes online. You can start out with a free 10-day trial before you sign on to pay for live-streamed workouts.
3. Befit
YouTube channel Befit offers a range of free classes online from some of the industry's top instructors including Jillian Michaels and Denise Austen.
Arranged into categories including cardio fat-burn, dance, yoga and 10 minutes or less they range from HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) to Dirty Dancing choreography.
4. Udaya
This online yoga studio offers a range of classes shot from a tranquil yoga studio. Membership gets you five new yoga classes a week and access to Udaya's fitness challenges.
5. The Kayla Movement
Currently being trialed by members of the Herald Life & Style team, Instagram fitness sensation Kayla Itsines' Bikini Body Guide 12 week challenge has become a global hit.
From $4.61 a week, you can join over 10 million women to work your way through a series of "do-anywhere" exercises said to reinvent your figure.
