Shakira, the queen of Latin American pop music, is to be immortalised with a 5m iron statue in her home city on Colombia's Caribbean coast.

The five-tonne statue was designed by German sculptor Dieter Patt, and took more than a year to complete.

"When the people look at this sculpture I want them not to think of me but think of every young girl from Barranquilla who is working toward her dreams," said Shakira.
