KEY POINTS:
ID Dunedin returns to the gothic city from March 10, with fashion events happening throughout the week - from fashion tours to a celebration of Dunedin jewellery. There are also two shows open to the public: the emerging designer awards show on Friday March 13 and the main Southern Trust ID Dunedin Fashion Show on Saturday March 14. This year's show will feature 23 labels, including Carlson, Nom*D, twentysevennames and this year's guest designer, World. Tickets for both are available from Ticket Direct.
Winter wonderland
Good news for those who are sick of seeing sale signs here, there and everywhere: New winter collections are slowly going into stores. Juliette Hogan has had pieces from her pretty new season range in store for a couple of weeks and Workshop had its first drop of winter pieces last week. Kate Sylvester's new Black Swan collection is in store now, as are new winter ranges at Max and Country Road. Karen Walker stores are looking brand new, too, with her winter range The Believers in store as well as new jewellery (see the Pinocchio pendant on page 3) and an amazing new range of Karen Walker Eyewear.
Yummy mummy
The yesteryear habit of inhaling smelling salts starts making sense when you take a deep breath of Egg's reviving version with ginger and lemongrass. The anti-nausea Sniff Box costs $16.50 and is one of seven products in the specialist maternity wear company's Essential Care body range made to pamper pregnant women. They'll love the anti-stretch Belly Butter massage cream with the Rosehip Oil, but anyone would welcome the other products, which feature the uplifting aroma of tangerine combined with soothing lavender in a shower gel, bath and body oil, a soothing foot gel and a scented candle, all priced under $30. Anti-age it
Trilogy is one of the few natural skincare companies to get serious about marketing anti-ageing preparations, with the launch of three specialist Age Proof products. Given that the power of botanicals has been harnessed by the wider cosmetic industry - think Clarins, Dr Hauschka and major mainstream companies too - it's no surprise that our local companies which use plant-based active ingredients are now also promoting their benefits, not just their wholesomeness. Trilogy's new Age Proof range comprises a serum, a night cream and a daily defence moisturiser with SPF15. From leading department stores, pharmacies and health stores, see www. trilogyproducts.com
New sunglasses
If you think that Ray-Ban's Wayfarer shape has reached saturation point, may we suggest the recently relaunched Clubmaster? The sunglasses have a distinctive 80s feel and are just like the sunglasses worn in teenage vampire flick The Lost Boys - and favoured by the likes of Morrissey, Rachel Bilson, Chloe Sevigny, Maggie Gyllenhaal (pictured) and er, Eugene Levy. They're a hard shape to pull off, but we welcome anything new and challenging. Ray-Ban Clubmaster, $270, from Sunglass Hut.
Another one's gone
Bad news for fans of Newmarket boutique stenbeck&morse. The store, which stocked local labels including Trelise Cooper, Jimmy D, Cybele as well as Australian brands, has shut its doors.
