We came here because we weren't late for any important dates, but the name attracted us.
Parking was easy on the side street.
We walked in and immediately thought the decorations were totally in keeping with the theme and the large wooden painting on the wall was brilliant. The Mad Hatter's table out front and the large playing card table markers were fun touches too.
The most unusual thing on the menu was a toss up between the green chilli scramble and the healthy breakfast salad.
We ordered both of these, out of curiosity. The scramble came with fresh asparagus, capers and pecorino ($15) and a side of bacon ($4). It was delicious, and in deference to our hesitation at the prospect of a too-hot chilli, it was toned down to just the right spiciness level.
The salad was with haloumi and a poached egg ($14.50) and another side of bacon. It, too, was a fine offering and the salad refreshing, meeting every expectation of a brunchy salad.
The service was friendly and efficient. The coffee was very good, from local roaster Velvet.
We recommend if you come here take time to relax in the old-fashioned armchairs in the corner with some of that great coffee.
Overall we thought a lunchtime visit to try the duck and orange risotto may be called for.
