A beautiful little book to browse in, it contains mainly black and white photos of angels from around England, where they reside in profusion in church architecture, civic monuments and folk art.
Although many pictured here are ancient - up to 800 years old, with some from every century since then - the authors note that some of the most powerful depictions come from the 20th century. The captions are sometimes frustratingly thin on detail, but the images themselves are utterly captivating.
