By MARGIE THOMSON
Our instincts should tell us that cliches such as "time heals all wounds" and "you should be over it by now" are inadequate when it comes to grieving, whatever it is we are grieving for: the life of a loved one, the end of a relationship, redundancy, illness or other major life changes.
Heaney, who has more than 20 years' experience as a funeral director and grief counsellor, recognises that everyone grieves in their own way, but also that we're in the grip of stereotypes and myths that make it difficult to express our feelings in a way that can enable healing. She provides strategies to help the healing process, and offers insight into the true nature of grief and loss.
