Review: Russell Baillie
The debut EP from this Wellington outfit does an attractive line in wistful, intimate jangle-pop across four songs, the songcraft of which reminds at times of the likes of the Verlaines and the Mutton Birds. On cuts like Presidential Golf Classic and the title track, they conjure a dreamy fireside atmosphere from their guitar-bass-drums line-up, while the slightly more strident other two songs shows them not so much rocking out as rocking in. And just in time for the coming Go-Betweens revival, too. (CD available at selected stores or through www.orangefarm.cjb.net)
