Internet Idol is no monkey business

Simon Cowell would beg to differ but not all stars are show-ponies. In recognition of this, Gorillaz, the animated music project started by ex-Blur singer Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewitt, are launching Search For a Star, which they claim is the world's first global internet talent contest.

The winner will get to collaborate with Gorillaz and spend time in their studio showcasing their skills.

Band members Murdoc, 2D, Russel and Noodle will be judging the competition, which kicks off on Wednesday.

"We are looking for true artists. Special kids! Musicians, child rappers, animators, inventors, writers, painters, comics, Mexican magicians, maverick plumbers, graffiti visionaries, imaginary Jedis or electric chefs ... people of vision! People with souls and a joy for experimentation," say the band on their website.
