KEY POINTS:
My friends are trying to convince me I should try internet dating. I am not convinced. Personally, I subscribe to the somewhat archaic school of thought that only sickos and perverts try to pick up online.
I have no rational justification for this view. In fact, one of my best friends is happily married in America to a man she met on the internet.
True story. Lee-Anne met Ray via the internet when she was 14. She used to chat online to him and his friends in Florida. When she was 18, she went over to the States to travel and visit Ray. She never came home.
They've now been married five years and have just welcomed a little baby girl, Mia, into the world.
Another friend, Jessica, is in the first throes of a torrid love affair with a man she met on NZ Dating. His message to her one of the simplest, yet fantastic, pick up lines I've ever heard.
"You seem cool. I'm cool too."
Gold.
But still I'm not convinced. It's just, I don't know, creepy.
Several people I know use NZ Dating to add a little 'spice' to their relationship. A non-partisan third party. Other couples.
Call me old fashioned but the thought of people trawling over my profile, eyeing me up as a potential sex aide, is bit much for my delicate sensibilities to handle.
We'll see. I've only been single six months now. Desperation has yet to set in.
Let's revisit this topic in another six months.
