Thanks to the Katherine Mansfield Memorial Fellowship, each year since 1970 a New Zealand writer has been able to live for a few months in Menton on the Cote d'Azur, working in the Katherine Mansfield Memorial Room at the Villa Isola Bella.

This is where the great writer lived in 1920-21.

Here are the memories of 23 of those lucky writers, about their time in that place, written in the form of letters to Mansfield.

The result is a kind of pot-pourri of personal, evocative meditations from some of our best-known writers.
