5 tbsp short-grain rice
1 tbsp sugar
1 pinch saffron threads, soaked in 2 tsp warm milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cinnamon stick
3 cardamom pods, bruised
2 cups full cream milk
1/2 cup cream
2 tsp butter
Preheat oven to 150C.
Put the rice, sugar, saffron, vanilla, cinnamon stick and cardamom pods in the bottom of an ovenproof dish.
Mix together the milk and cream, then pour over.
Dot with butter and bake for two hours, stirring a few times in the first hour.
