Citrus season is helping us squeeze some joy in to this second week of winter. Lemons, limes and mandarins are here right now, with oranges and grapefruit on their way next month, so all of this week's recipes include citrus in some way.
We do, of course, include citrus in a lot of recipes every day, but we're upping the quantities in these recipes to ensure we reap the nutritional benefits - lemons in particular. The thought of Warren's morning shot of lemon-aid had me feeling quesy until I read Mikki's nutritional information on using lemons, skin and all, this could be a good way of ensuring we get what we need from them every day. Warren has also made a savoury lemon rice and a lemon rice pudding.
Try Jeremy Dixon's lemon infused quinoa or a zesty lime and coriander rice to accompany winter meats and vegetables.
Kathy Paterson is marinating lamb chops in plenty of lemon and ginger (a very restorative combination), and pork in lime for flavour and freshness. Orange combines with silverbeet and lamb for a calzone and everyone will love her best Hong Kong-style lemon chicken. For dessert, Aaron Brunet's orange and poppy seed cake uses whole oranges.
