Labour Day... oh how we need it... deserve it... hang out for it... all winter! As Louise Thompson says in her column this week, it's hard yakka downunder because Christmas and the New Year come in summer and we tend to take all of our holidays at that time, when what we really need is a mid-year break to ensure we don't burn out.
I am very bad at taking mid-year breaks and tend to rely on a bit of a detox in spring to help me through to the end of the year. It's just a spot of cutting out what I know slows me down (coffee, alcohol, sweeties) and adding in more of what I know gives me energy (fruit, veges, nuts, grains).
Many of this week's recipes will help me out and I have already made the freekeh and beetroot salad with dandelion leaves - yes those weeds with yellow flowers in the lawn are really high in nutrients and we should be eating them - get out there now before the lawnmower does.
Kyle Street shares another staff meal, but I might just leave the pastrami out of his asparagus and pastrami salad for now because, well, unless I can eat the pastrami they make at the Fed, I don't eat any, it's that good! Have you thought about selling it sliced to go Kyle?
