Tiramisu - that rich, creamy dessert that translates to "pick-me-up" in Italian - certainly does exactly that; just the thought of it had my father-in-law beaming. There is no tiramisu recipe in Bite this week but we do have lots that fit in the "pick-me-up" category starting with oysters ... say no more, right? But there is more to say, because they bring even more happiness when they are freshly shucked from Mahurangi. Lisa and Andrew Hay will deliver fresh oysters to your door and their farm tours on the shuckle ferry are a joy also. Read all about it in Warren Elwin's feature and try one of his four oyster recipes.
Geoff Scott has found keeping bees to be therapeutic and we're benefiting from a new set of savoury recipes he has made even more delicious with their honey. Mix honey with thyme for your next roast chicken, honey makes five-spiced pork ribs nice and sticky, and try roasting your kumara with honey and rosemary.
The produce I gathered at the Food Show last week has been keeping me very perky read more here. I love that something as simple as a perfectly made oat cake, a spoonful of silky coconut yoghurt or a snifter of locally-made spiced rum can make an "I'm totally over everything" mood melt away.
