Ernest Shackleton was an inspirational leader who managed to retain the respect and admiration of his men even in the most appalling, life-threatening situations.
It was he who, after his ship Endurance disappeared beneath the freezing waters of the Antarctic, encouraged his crew to believe there was a way out, if they jettisoned all but absolute essentials and headed off across the pack ice.
This book is well written and interesting, but it seems a cheap shot to co-opt his stunning and highly principled achievements into a series of bullet points and bon mots, a manual for team leaders in the business world - but when you strip away the pretension, that's what it is.
