LOS ANGELES - The drama Lost is coming to interactive entertainment next year through a deal between the show's Disney-owned producer Touchstone Television and French game publisher Ubisoft.
The game is expected to ship in conjunction with the debut of the fourth season of the TV series. At this early stage, there are no details on which cast members will be involved in the game through likenesses and/or voice acting.
"With the ability to tell new interactive stories within the Lost universe, we're giddy to be developing a game that will be as engaging and fun to play as it is to create," said Lost executive producer Bryan Burk.
ABC Entertainment recently unleashed the "Lost Experience" for fans of the show. This online game is designed to keep fans involved in the show throughout the (northern) summer digging up new clues and information from the programs, DVDs and the internet to piece together a parallel plot story that will lead up to the third season of the show. Show creators J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof, avid gamers themselves, were involved in the creation of this interactive experience.
Ubisoft, which has turned CBS hit shows CSI and CSI: Miami into hit PC games, will bring Lost to console, portable and PC gamers. The younger demographic to which Lost appeals opens a bigger audience for consoles.
Consoles are becoming more attractive for TV properties. Abrams worked closely with Acclaim on an Alias game for PS2 and Xbox in 2004, which featured an original story and the entire cast for voice and likenesses. 2K Games shipped 24: The Game for PlayStation 2 earlier this year, also with the entire cast on board. Animated TV shows like Family Guy and The Simpsons are also heading to both current and next generation consoles courtesy of 2K Games and Electronic Arts.
