The ninth in Snicket's blockbuster Series of Unfortunate Events, in which the Baudelaire orphans join a circus and allow themselves to hope that perhaps one of their parents may have survived the terrible fire that consumed their home in the first book. But a happy ending still seems unlikely as Count Olaf, his girlfriend Esme and a cast of horrors including untrustworthy fortune-teller Madame Lulu, escalate their plans to do away with the children.
