272 Ponsonby Rd, Ponsonby
KEY POINTS:
We came here because I'd promised to take David somewhere nice after our last disastrous brunch outing and Landreth and Co has long been a favourite.
Parking was easy on the street outside on our visit. But remember, this is Ponsonby so you might need to park and walk.
We walked in and immediately thought how peaceful it was in the outdoor courtyard. Best we switch to "inside voices" so as not to disturb the serenity.
The most unusual thing on the menu are the fishcakes nicoise, made from salmon and snapper with green beans, tomato, olives, capers, boiled egg and potato salad.
We ordered a chocolate panino ($6.50) - which is a bit like a chocolate toasted sandwich - for me and a fresh fruit platter with yoghurt ($12.50) for David. The panino was a touch dry but full of chunky, half-melted chocolate. Mmmm.
The service was that perfect combination of relaxed and efficient.
The coffee was excellent. David particularly recommends the iced coffee, which was perfectly blended for a refreshing caffeine hit.
We recommend if you come here you bring a book or the paper to sit out in the courtyard. Or stay inside if you're planning a noisy natter.
Overall we thought it would be a sure-fire winner every time.
