"Yeah, right," grinned Cory.

"I'm serious. Scientists look for clues and solve problems, just like detectives." Angie smiled at them. "We're going on a field trip."

"Fields? Round here?" said Owen.

"I thought we'd take a look at that wasteland behind the box factory," said Angie. "I've asked the council to let us use it as a nature area."

Ricardo yawned. "Nature's boring."

"Why, because it doesn't go 'Kerboom!'?" sneered Jade.

After dinner, the class walked down to the box factory to see Angie's nature area. Tyler wasn't impressed. There was nothing to see, except a scummy pond with junk bobbing around in it. The children peered into the water.
