The next minute the plug was fast in the hole, but it had caught the end of his last foot, and he dangled inside the pipe unabel to move up or down. Also, it hurt.
He waited for the tapwater to batter down upon the top of his head and hope it would not be too hot. If his leg were free he could have escaped before the water came, but now he would have tgo wait until the boy had finished his bath, and whichever way it happened, it was sure to be uncomfortable. He made one final effort before the taps were turned on, and called:
'HENRY!'
To the spider's surprise there came a plop! as the plug was pulled out above his dead. Daylight arrived, and his eighth leg was free.
Henry's face peered down at him.
'So you're still there!' he exclaimed. 'Aren't you afraid of being drowned? Why didn't you go back the way you came, you silly whatsit? I mean ... I'm sorry! But you really are rather a stupid sort of spider.'
Tomorrow: Henry finds Spid a new hiding place.
